I. POSITION SUMMARY
The Deli Manager will manage the daily operations of the delicatessen. This position is accountable for the profit and loss (P&L) for their department and must use their leadership and merchandising skills to manage product levels and make sound business decisions. In addition, this position is responsible for increasing customer confidence and loyalty by promoting and maintaining a consistently high standard of product freshness, value and selection. The Deli Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of the department including staff, sales, margin, and labor. They are required to assist customers as needed and maintain a friendly, energetic demeanor.
II. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
o Execute the company vision and expectations through example, management, and measurement of department associate performance.
o Execute merchandising program to maximize sales and profits of the department with proper signage, merchandise variety and high quality, cross merchandising.
o Manage the inventory, in-stock position, pricing integrity, merchandising, labor and other operational processes to company standards.
o Ensure the department is merchandised in accordance with the needs of the community.
o Ensure fair and consistent treatment in administering discipline to promote high associate morale.
o Responsible for inventory, security, and expense control of the department.
o Delegate and use initiative, ingenuity, and good judgment to act on opportunities and solve problems.
o Plan work schedules and breaks.
o Ensure all product labels, signs, and prices are aligned with product.
o Oversee the preparation of special orders that are requested by customers (i.e., party platters, meat cuts, etc.)
o Manage the ordering, receiving, and unloading of truck; storage, pricing, dating, rotation, and storage of product.
o Promote the company image as a service-oriented operation where every associate will greet, assist, render efficient service and thank customers in a prompt, courteous, friendly, and business-like manner.
o Resolve customer complaints to the full satisfaction of the customer.
o Offer product samples, make suggestions, answer product questions and offer assistance in finding or suggesting product selection.
o Meet attendance requirements.
o Ensure all new department associates receive proper training and indoctrination of job duties, goals, and objectives.
o Train and develop associates in accordance with company policy and procedures.
o Evaluate department conditions and operations to determine strengths and areas for improvement. Reinforce strengths and execute plan to improve practices and procedures.
o Evaluate product handling, merchandising, salesmanship techniques to increase the departments' productivity, sales and impulse sales and profits.
o Provide an open door atmosphere conducive to high associate morale and excellent customer service.
o Attend weekly sales meetings with team members to establish merchandising, sales, and profit objectives. Demonstrate good communication skills.
o Respond in a timely manner to all location mail, reports, and records.
o Ensure company standards of safety, proper food handling practices, sanitation, and productivity are achieved.
o Monitor cooler and display area temperatures to ensure product quality; report refrigeration failure immediately.
o Ensure sales and work areas are kept clean, orderly, and free from safety hazards; report hazards to management.
o Exercise proper safety practices when lifting or moving product or using equipment.
III. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
o Checks mailbox, departmental communication log and/or e-mail regularly; at least once per shift.
o Participates actively in department team and all-staff meetings
o Walks department regularly to ensure an organized, sanitary, and overall clean appearance at all times.
o Swipe out and in for meal periods.
o Clean walls, fans, and drains in coolers, display cases, and work area.
o Make price checks for customers as needed.
o Ensure department associates adhere to company dress code standards (i.e., nametags, personal hygiene, etc.)
o Present favorable impression in dress, personal hygiene and business attitude.
o Operate and clean department equipment and tools.
o Perform other job-related duties assigned by management.
IV. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
o Extensive knowledge of deli operations.
o General knowledge of customer service principles and processes
o Basic skill to operate computerized cash register and barcode reader.
o Ability to read, write and speak English adequately.
o Ability to understand and follow English instructions.
o Ability to obtain and maintain the Alabama Food Handler Card
o Ability to aggressively solve problems that may include a variety of variables with limited standardization.
o Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
o Ability to do arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
o Ability to interpret and understand written and oral work instructions; interview job applicants; follow technical manuals and have increased contact with people.
o Ability to understand and abide by the Personnel Rules, Policies and Procedures of the Company.
o Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays

V. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Required
o High School diploma or GED equivalency.
o Must have at least 3 years experience in deli department operations.
o

o Proficient with computer applications used in effectively operating the department.
VI. PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Incumbents in this position must:
o Frequently reach, lift and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weights up to 50-80 lbs.
o Push and pull fully loaded hand-trucks and pallet jacks.
o Stand for long periods of time, walk and move rapidly, bend, twist and turn, squat and kneel frequently.
o Perform safe/quick movements and operate related equipment with manual dexterity and hand/eye coordination.
o Work with hands exposed to moisture and/or cold temperatures.
o Frequently stand, bend, stoop, reach and pick-up objects while stocking items in cases.
o Constantly identify barcode on items by twisting, turning, rotating grocery items.
o Frequently lift, carry, or otherwise move grocery items weighing up to 20 lbs. from the work cart and place in display shelves.
o Occasionally lift, carry or otherwise remove/replace items weighing up to 40 lbs. out of/into work carts.
VII. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Functions of this position are generally conducted indoors, in a heated or cooled area, typical of a large grocery store.
Deli environment also contains heat from ovens and cold from freezer/refrigerator cases.
Occasionally, incumbents may have to operate outdoors for special events.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
